Setting a Creator's Payment Amount Yourself in an Activation
When you move creators to paid partnerships, you can either let each creator propose their own fee or set the number yourself. This article covers setting it yourself, both as one amount for the whole Activation and as a different amount per creator.
What you'll need
- An Activation with the Payments module turned on. If you do not see a Payments section in Activation Settings, select the arrow in the top right corner to open the slide-out panel, then use the Modules menu to toggle it on.
- Enough available creator funds to cover the payment, if you plan to pay from GRIN.
Setting one amount for the whole Activation
- Open the Activation and go to Activation Settings, then the Payments module.
- Enable Contract Payments.
- Choose Fixed payments instead of Creator proposes price.
- Enter an amount in Payment up front, Payment upon completion of tasks, or both. You must provide an amount for at least one of the two.
- Save.
Payment up front is what the creator receives on accepting your proposal, and Payment upon completion of tasks is what they receive once their tasks are done. There is also Per task type if you would rather price each deliverable, and that option only becomes available once you have at least one task set up in Tracking & Deliverables. All three options are described in the Configuring Payments section of creating an Activation.
Setting a different amount for each creator
When the fee is not the same for everyone, the amount goes on the creator rather than on the Activation.
- Open the Activation.
- Click the creator's name to open their side menu.
- Go to the Payments tab in that side menu.
- Create or edit the payable for that creator. Payables are managed at the creator level, so you can hold more than one for the same creator, for example a deliverable fee, a bonus and a usage fee.
If a payable you expect is not showing, remove the Due filter to bring up everything associated with that creator. More on this, including editing payable amounts when your terms change, is in managing payables and default payment settings.
Good to know
- While an Activation is set to Creator proposes price, the amount comes from the creator's own proposal on their Live URL. Until they submit one, there is no payable against that creator, so the payment step has nothing to pick up. Setting an amount on the creator directly is what creates the payable.
- Once a payable exists, you pay it from the Activation's workflow, and you can either pay from your GRIN creator funds or record a payment you made outside GRIN. That flow is covered in paying creators in an Activation.
