Emails and sequences stuck in Processing or not sending
Summary
Emails sent from a sequence sit in a Processing status and never go out, or a sequence stops sending anything after the first send. There are three confirmed causes, and they are worth ruling out in a fixed order because the cheapest check is also the most common one.
Description
You add contacts to a sequence and the emails never leave. The emails show as Processing and stay that way, or the sequence reports that it is active while no messages are actually going out. Recipients confirm they received nothing.
Resolution
Work through these three steps in order.
- Reconnect your email integration. A dropped connection between GRIN and your email account is the most common cause. Reconnect the integration rather than removing it, and do not use the disconnect option, because disconnecting removes your existing email history from your GRIN Inbox and stops you from sending. The steps and the warning are documented in Managing Your Email Settings.
- If the sequence still sends nothing, remove the contacts from the sequence and add them back. A sequence that was running while the email connection was restored does not resume on its own. Reconnecting the email fixes sending, but the sequence itself stays stalled until the contacts are re-added.
- Check your daily sending limit. Email providers cap how many messages an account can send per day, and once that cap is reached, further emails are delayed or not sent at all. Review the daily sending limit in your email settings and compare it against what your provider allows.
If the same symptom appears across several accounts at the same time, it may be an incident on the email provider's side rather than a configuration problem. In that case the sending usually recovers once the provider does.
If these steps do not resolve it
Some cases of emails stuck in Processing are a known defect and are not fixable from your settings. If you have worked through all three steps above and emails are still not sending, open a case with GRIN support and include when the sequence was created, which contacts are affected, and what you have already tried. We cannot promise the three steps above will resolve every case, and having that detail up front lets us investigate yours faster.
