Setting Up Payouts as a U.S. Resident
In order to receive payouts from the brands you work with, you must submit your Payout information on your Live Site. This information includes:
Your payout method, which must be a Bank Transfer (ACH) account. Bank Transfer is the only payout method GRIN supports.
If your brand is paying you through GRIN, a valid tax form, which is a W-9 for U.S. residents (if you're a non-U.S. resident, see Setting Up Payouts as a Non-U.S. Resident).
For more information on W-9s, check out this article from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Note: A W-9 is considered valid if all the information you provide, such as your name, address, and taxpayer identification number (such as an SSN or an EIN), matches whatever is on file for you at the IRS or relevant tax agency where you originally created your tax information.
If any of the information comes back as incorrect, GRIN will send you an email notifying you that your tax form is invalid. If that happens, you will have 30 days from when you receive the email to correct your information, otherwise, you may be subject to backup tax withholdings by the IRS on your earnings.
See Yearly Income Tax Forms FAQ for more information on why your tax form may be invalid.
You'll need your bank account details ready before you add your payout method, and you can complete a W-9 directly through your Live Site. Once you set up both of these items, you'll be able to receive payments from the brands you work with.
Depending on whether you elect to withhold your taxes, you may also receive 1099-NEC tax forms at the beginning of each year, which will cover your payouts from the previous calendar year. For more information on 1099-NEC forms, see our article Yearly Income Tax Forms FAQ.
If you don't add your bank account on your Live Site and submit a tax form, any payments your brand makes to you through GRIN will be refunded within 30 days. Be sure to set up your payout information as soon as possible so you can start receiving payouts for your collaborations with brands!
What You'll Need
A verified Live Site account. To learn more, see Verifying Your Account.
A bank account that can receive USD payments, along with your account number or IBAN and any routing, BIC, or SWIFT information your bank requires.
The account holder name exactly as it appears on your bank statement, with no initials.
Your taxpayer identification number (TIN), such as a Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Note: GRIN no longer supports PayPal payouts. If you previously had a PayPal account saved on your Live Site, it has been removed. Add a Bank Transfer payout method so your brands can continue to pay you.
How to Do It
1. Navigate to your Live Site > Payouts.
2. Click Get Started under Finish Setup.
3. Select your country. This should be the country that you file your taxes in. Then, click Set up Tax Information.
4. On the You're almost finished! screen, click Continue.
5. Click Add Payout Method.
6. Fill in your General Information, then click Next at the bottom of the page.
7. Select Bank Transfer as your payout method.
8. Choose your Bank Account Currency. If you are receiving USD payments, select US Dollar (USD).
9. Enter your account number or IBAN, along with any routing, BIC, or SWIFT information your bank requires.
10. Enter the Name of Account Holder exactly as it appears on your bank statement. Then click Add.
Important: The name on your bank account must match the name on your tax form, and the Tax ID you provide must belong to the account holder. Your bank account must also be able to receive payments in the currency you selected. If these do not match, your payment may be delayed or returned by your bank.
11. Click Submit a Tax Form.
12. Select I am a U.S. Person, then click Continue.
13. Fill in your Personal Information.
14. In Part II - Taxpayer Identification Number, complete the following:
Select a Federal Tax Classification. Depending on what you select, you may receive 1099 tax forms at the beginning of the calendar year. For more information, see our article Yearly Income Tax Forms FAQ.
Enter a taxpayer identification number (TIN). Depending on what you chose in the previous step, this might be your social security number, tax identifier type, or employer identification number. Be sure to submit the correct number! See Yearly Income Tax Forms FAQ for more information.
Open Exemptions (optional) and add exemptions if you need them.
15. Click Continue and confirm all the information that appears is correct.
16. In Part II - Certification, select the checkboxes next to all the statements and enter your name. Then click Complete W-9.
17. Click Submit Form on the Submitting W-9 popup to confirm your submission.
Warning: Once you submit your tax form, you won't be able to make changes to it. If you ever need to update any information, you'll need to create and submit a new tax form.
18. Choose how you'd like to receive your tax statements:
E-Delivery: Your tax statements will be emailed to you at the address provided in your Live Site > Settings.
Postal Mail: Your tax statements will be mailed to you at the address provided in your Live Site > Settings.
19. Click Continue at the bottom of the page.
That's it! Your payout and tax information have been submitted successfully. Your Bank Transfer payout method will show as Active and your W-9 will show as Reviewed. Any withholdings selected in your tax forms will be documented in your payment emails going forward. Now, you're ready to receive payouts from your brand!
Troubleshooting
My payment was returned. Payments may be returned if your bank account currency does not match the currency you selected during setup, or if the account holder name does not exactly match your bank records. Verify your bank details and re-add your payout method if needed.
I don't see the option to submit a tax form. You must add a payout method first. Complete the Bank Transfer setup and then return to the Payouts page.
